The Fanning Springs Festival of Lights

What the thousands of travelers see from the highway (US 19/98) as they pass through Fanning Springs belies both its size and uniqueness. This town of springs and the historic 1836 site of Fort Fanning, located on a high Suwannee River bluff. It is one of only three Florida towns straddling the lines of two counties (Gilchrist and Levy). The powerful springs are now the centerpiece of a popular recreational site operated by the Florida Park Service. Divers can enjoy searching the remains of a 90 foot Union gunboat sunk near the mouth of the spring run by Confederate fire. In 1936 it became (and is still) the site of the southernmost bridge spanning the Suwannee. Visitors will always find comfortable accommodations, great food and plenty to do.
